Joining the thousands of eager women at the event this weekend and raising funds for charity are Sharon McGrath and Emma O’Sullivan.

Sharon McGrath was in isolation at the hospital for over seven months post her bone marrow transplant.

Sharon McGrath will be running the marathon this Sunday alongside her daughters, sisters and nieces.

“When I was in the hospital I reached a point where walking from the bed to the bathroom took a lot of effort,” Mrs McGrath said.

Sharon would be walking the Limerick Womens Mini Marathon 2018 this Sunday with her daughters, sisters, and nieces saying, “It is great to be able to do it with my kids, to give them an example of pushing yourself an extra bit.”

Two-time kidney transplant, Emma O’Sullivan actively promotes organ donation.

“I’m running the marathon to encourage people to become organ donors. I wouldn’t have had my little four-year old if it wasn’t for the transplant,” Mrs O’Sullivan said.

Despite having a recent kidney infection, Emma is more than determined to complete the run this Sunday saying, “I shall run as much as I can and try and finish it, as it promotes a great cause.”
