Council looking for public’s opinions on Culture and Arts at Limerick World Cafe event 

Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Arts Office would like to hear your thoughts about the development of Culture and the Arts at Limerick World Cafe event on May 16.

If you are a member of an arts or culture group or organisation, a creative practitioner, festival organiser, community group or an individual, we are looking for your views on establishing a model of delivery for Culture and Arts across Limerick city and county.

As part of this consultation process, a Limerick World Cafe event is taking place at the Savoy Hotel on Tuesday 16 May 2017 from 6.30pm.

This consultation event will enable you/ your organisation to contribute your views, that will form the recommendations that will go to Council on a new model of delivery for Culture and Arts in Limerick.

The recommendations will feed into future plans in the strategic investment in culture across the city and county.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon said: “This event is an ideal opportunity to hear what people in the sector feel should be done to help expand and develop the Limerick Arts and Culture scene.”

“I am chair of the Culture and Arts Working Group and we are examining the ways things are done here in Limerick and will be making recommendations on how best to deliver arts and culture.  This public meeting will help us formulate a strategy.”

Josephine Cotter-Coughlan, Director of Culture and the Arts in Limerick City and County Council said: “A shared approach to investment and development of culture and the arts will strengthen culture and the arts in Limerick, for the benefit of all our people.”

“We believe that by working more strategically together with the culture and arts sector we can strengthen the arts, improve public participation in the arts, and secure and sustain a vibrant arts infrastructure.”

Neil Peterson will moderate the Limerick World Cafe Public Meeting.  He is Director and Founder of Inside Track, a consultancy group which focuses on helping clients to deliver positive social and economic changes.

In 2005, Neil joined the Liverpool Culture Company to lead the Liverpool Welcome programme in the build up to Liverpool’s 2008 year as European Capital of Culture.  This programme has become the benchmark for European Capital of Culture volunteer programmes.  He also led Liverpool’s International work during the build up to and during its European Capital of Culture year.

From 2009 until setting up his Inside Track business, Neil was Liverpool’s Head of International and Commercial Relations.  He continued to lead the City of Liverpool’s International work and its work on securing external funding and major bids, including the city’s successful 2018 World Cup Host City bid and being a key writer of Liverpool’s UNESCO City of Culture bid.
