Dance Limerick presents new opportunities for young people and adults to get moving this autumn, with Limerick Youth Dance Open Auditions on Saturday 10 September and a new Contemporary Dance Class for Adults with renowned dance artist Mary Nunan beginning Tuesday 20 September.  With a range of classes also available for all ages and levels, there’s an opportunity for everyone to get moving this autumn.  No experience necessary.

Limerick Youth Dance Open Auditions will commence on Sat 10 Sept, 2pm. Limerick Youth Dance (LYD) is a great opportunity for young people aged 15-25 who are curious or passionate about dance to develop as a dancer, to create new dance pieces and to perform on stage and screen.  For the new term beginning this month, LYD will create a new dance theatre piece inspired by themes from Oscar Wilde’s The Selfish Giant, to be performed in December.  All are welcome to the open auditions on Saturday 10 September, 2pm at Dance Limerick, John’s Square.  No experience is necessary. Participants are also welcome to just come along on the day.  LYD is managed by Dance Limerick and led by dance artist Angie Smalis.

Contemporary Dance for Adults, with Mary Nunan and there is a ‘Free Taster Class’ on Culture Night. This new class provides an opportunity for participants to develop the skill and confidence to dance with ease.  Led by renowned dance artist and choreographer Mary Nunan, this is a wonderful opportunity for participants to discover a new way to move and to express themselves in a relaxed setting.  Informed by postmodern dance and somatic principles, each class will begin with simple warm-up exercises and build progressively towards more expansive movement phrases, allowing each person to gain a sense of the natural flow of their movement and enjoy their own unique dancing body.  All are welcome to a Free Taster Class on Culture Night, Friday 16 September, 6pm at Dance Limerick Studio on John’s Square.

Dance Limerick opened in October 2013 as a centre for professional dance and to promote dance in Limerick and beyond.  Through a programme of performances, artist residencies, classes, talks and workshops, Dance Limerick provides opportunities for dance to be created, experienced and discussed in many ways, by all ages.  Dance Limerick supports the development of new and innovative work and encourages dance participation by the wider community.
