Passionate young learners at the Limerick Youth Service Community Training Centre are gaining skills and experience with the QQI Level 4 Professional Bakery Skills

The QQI Level 4 Professional Bakery Skills course at Limerick Youth Service Community Training Centre (CTC) is helping young learners gain skills, knowledge, and experience to pursue a career in the bakery industry.
The hands-on Bakery Project at the CTC gives young learners the opportunity to gain experience in a bakery setting, allowing them to work towards a qualification recognised by professional bakeries or to further pursue their studies for diploma courses.
The bakery at Limerick Youth Service’s community centre on Glentworth Street allows the learners to develop practical skills and explore career opportunities in the creative and rewarding baking industry.
One young learner, Vladislav, says the course is perfect as it “introduces us to all aspects of the bakery sector”. Vladislav said, “ The programme offers us a qualification in professional bakery, either a diploma or certificate. It introduces us to all aspects of the bakery sector and we get a chance to experience craft technologies in bread, morning goods, confectionery, pastry, sugar, almond products, chocolate and cake decoration.”
Each day at the Bakery Project is packed full of experience and learning as the course is designed to be highly practical and hands on, giving young people like Vladislav the opportunity to master a wide range of crafts as well as building on skills such as teamwork and communication to be successful in a real working environment. From mixing dough to finishing cakes with delicate decorations, learners gain a true taste of what it means to work in a professional bakery.

Vladislav says the hands-on nature of the programme has helped him develop his skill set, he said, “ It’s a very hands-on practical course where you get to learn all about the baking industry and develop skills in this area.”
Encouraging others who might be interested in a career in baking, Vladislav urged them to join the Bakery Project programme, saying, “ If you want to develop skills and earn a qualification in the bakery profession, then why not come to Limerick Youth Service Community Training Centre and join our project? You won’t regret it.”
