Limerick Youth Service Finnish Youth Exchange is a great success

‘YELL Yhdessä!’ shouted young people from Limerick Youth Service and the Finnish city of Kuopio, as they completed part one of an international youth exchange. The teenagers, who are from LYS Northside Youth Space and the Finnish youth organization, Kuopiob Kaupunki, spent a week taking part in a number of workshops and explored the Midwest of Limerick. YELL stands for Youth Empowerment Looks at Limerick while Yhdessä is the Finnish word for together hence, YELL Yhdessä!

Stacey Lyons, a worker from LYS, said, “The Limerick Youth Service Finnish youth exchange focused on leadership and the involvement of young people in their local community as well as capturing and promoting the positive contribution of young people”.

As part of the exchange, the young people took part in a variety of workshops, enjoyed some team building in Ballyhass Lakes, hosted an Irish-Finnish cultural evening and cheered on Limerick Pride. Stacey was full of praise for the Limerick teens who went above and beyond in organizing the youth exchange.

‘They were excellent ambassadors for LYS and Limerick and really made the Finns feel welcome,’ said Stacey adding with a smile “they even taught them Limerick slang!”

The next step of the youth exchange will be in October as the young people travel to Kuopio in northeast Finland as they continue to say ‘YELL Yhdessä!’.

YELL Yhdessä is an EU Erasmus+ accredited international youth work programme that is supported by Léargas.
