Top Marks for Limerick Youth Service Leaving Cert Applied Class

There were joyous and emotional scenes this past Wednesday, August 16th as twelve students from the Limerick Youth Service Leaving Cert Applied class received their results.  

The students, who spent two years studying at the Limerick Youth Service Leaving Cert Applied class, saw their hard work rewarded with excellent results that were among the highest in the country.

‘Delighted’ was the reply from student Kelsey Markham, when asked about how she fared in the state examinations.

‘I did really well and would like to thank the staff at LYS for all their support,’ smiled Kelsey, whose next stop is Limerick College of Further Education where she plans on studying a Pharmacy Assistant Course.  

When asked what attracted her to Leaving Cert Applied Kelsey, who also studied for her Junior Cart at Limerick Youth Service via Youthreach, said that it was ‘the mix of practical and classroom activities.’

‘The practical side really appealed to me and I really enjoyed my time on work experience’ said Kelsey.

‘It was a difficult and challenging two years but we (classmates) got great support and encouragement from the staff, who are excellent,’ said Kelsey.

Celebrating twenty years, the Leaving Cert Applied programme meets the needs of students who prefer the practical and continuous assessment approach in contrast to that of the ‘mainstream’ Leaving Cert.

The success of Kelsey and her classmates was acknowledged by Limerick Youth Service’s Noreen Murphy who paid tribute to the Class of 2017.

‘They worked very hard and this has been reflected in their results which are simply outstanding’ said Ms. Murphy, Leaving Cert Applied Coordinator.

‘They should be very proud of their achievements and we wish them all the best in this next step of their lives,’ said a very proud Ms. Murphy.

Limerick Youth Service wishes to echo Ms. Murphy’s sentiments and congratulate the Leaving Cert Applied Class of 2017:  Pierce Acheson, Sophie Alexander, Megan Corbett, Paudie Cashin, Shannon Goodwin, Kelsey Markham, Aidan McGuane, Darragh O’Keeffe, Sophie O’Loughlin, Aaron O’Neill, Mark Payne, Aine Sage.

All the above will now progress to further education and/or employment and Limerick Youth Service wishes them the very best of luck with their future endeavours.
