Limerick Youth Theatre stages The Trial

From 19 – 22 August 2015, Limerick Youth Theatre stages The Trial, One of Franz Kafka’s best-known works, In an unconventional way at 69 O’Connell Street.  Working with a professional local team and a talented young cast  this year’s play continues to develop, support and sustain theatre making for young adults in Limerick city.

Limerick Youth Theatre Group to stage The Trial directed by Ann Blake

Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) is a company of young performers, dancers, writers, designers, directors, producers and film-makers, located in the Shannon region of Ireland.

Limerick Youth Theatre was set up in 1997 with a vision of providing a unique opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to cross social/cultural divides through youth drama experiences. It runs a two-year training course in theatre and performance arts.

Limerick Youth Theatre holds weekly workshops with artists and directors from October to May, and presents a full-length production in August after 5 weeks intensive rehearsals. This year is no exception, the show will be directed by Limerick native, Ann Blake.

Besides summer production, Limerick Youth Theatre produces shows throughout the year, participates in festivals and collaborates with groups across Limerick.

The Trial is about Joseph K’s arrest and  his impending trial. He has no idea why he has been arrested. As he attempts to discover what is behind his situation, he sinks deeper and deeper, flailing as he tries to escape.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
