Linda Hayford brings Shapeshifting to Dance Limerick on Thursday, 27 September

Full of grace and intensity, Shapeshifting follows the metamorphosis of a dancer from shadow to light. Linda Hayford brings her stunning performance to Dance Limerick on Thursday 27 September.

Linda Hayford’s dance is powerfully evocative. Her body, inhabited by an animal spirit, suggests unbelievable and supernatural forms and figures. Shapeshifting is a solo that breaks apart from genres and conventions and mixes its own new language. Her popping, hip-hop and mature style are carried by the soundscape created by the composer Abraham Diallo. In this daring introspection, Hayford invites the audience to feel the states of dance that pass through her.

Linda HayfordLinda Hayford is a young yet accomplished dancer whose undeniable mastery of technique serves strong organic gestures, where popping, hip hop and house dance styles all meet as a harmonious body expression. Her artistic approach questions the physical metamorphoses caused by human emotions as diverse and raw as they are. Since 2015, she has been developing her personal projects at Inside Out Company. Hayford is part of the collective FAIR (E) and she collaborates with companies and artists such as Par Terre – Anne Nguyen, Paradox-sal, Engrenage – Marie Houdin and Black Sheep – Johanna Faye / Saïdo Lehlouh. Linda Hayford is an Aerowaves Twenty 17 artist.

Aerowaves is a European network of dance partners that now has representatives in 33 countries. The network brings together the professional knowledge, personal insight and love for dance of its 45 members. Each year in October, these partners vote for the next group of Aerowaves Twenty artists. This takes place at an intensive meeting where hundreds of videos are watched and discussed. This year the meeting will take place in Dance Limerick during the October bank holiday weekend. Dance Limerick joined the Aerowaves network in 2017. Initially, about 100 emerging choreographers applied to become part of the Aerowaves Twenty. In 2014 this grew to more than 600, and in 2018 over 750 emerging dance artists applied to the Aerowaves. The network has created a legacy of talent spotting with many selected choreographers building successful international careers. Since 1996, and particularly since 2009, Aerowaves Twenty artists have been invited to perform in more than 50 cities in 20 countries. Aerowaves also contributes to the development of quality writing and dance criticism through the critical writing programme Springback Academy and Springback Magazine. Aerowaves prides itself on its unique role as a connector between choreographers, dance programmers and dance enthusiasts across Europe.

Dance Limerick hosts Shapeshifting on Thursday 27 September at 8pm. Tickets €12 (€10 concession) online or €14 (€12 concession) on the door.
