Lip Sync battle in aid of two charities in Uganda

On Saturday, January 12, 2019, the Dolans, Limerick will host a Lip Sync battle for all Limerick residents. The event organised by a few enthusiastic Limerick folk is in aid of two charities based in Uganda.

Hospice Jinja is a registered charity, which provides holistic palliative care to patients and their families with Cancer and advanced HIV/Aids in the Busoga region of Uganda.

The service is entirely home-based therefore the provision of reliable transport is a priority. Education, training, and awareness are ongoing with staff members who are currently doing a degree and diploma course in Palliative care.

The hospice team is lead by 2 volunteer Doctors Frank and Patricia Hassett who retired from practice in Ennis, Co. Clare.

Soft Power Education is a registered charity and Ugandan registered NGO (non-government organisation) based in Jinja, Uganda. Their mission is to improve quality of life through education and they work with a vision of an empowered and self-sustaining society that takes responsibility for its own development by equipping people with the skills and resources that they need to break the cycle of poverty for themselves.

The organisers are arraigning a trip to Uganda in February to help both of the above-mentioned charities. This trip is entirely self-funded with any donations received given in full to the charities.

Come and show your support this new year for two prominent charities in Uganda.

Organiser Vivienne Brazier is looking forward to the upcoming event: “We are four individuals from diverse professional backgrounds. When an opportunity arose for us to go to Jinga to do some charity work we jumped at the chance. We have been very privileged in life and this small token is our way of giving back.”

As part of their fundraising efforts, the organisers are holding a Lip Sync battle this January in Dolans, Limerick.

The MC for the event is Gerry Clarke, an Aer Lingus cabin manager. Rugby legend Peter Clohessy has been confirmed as one of the esteemed judges for the night.

There is also a signed & framed Limerick & Munster jersey up for auction on the night.

Any donation would go to help the hospice continue its vital work and to help a school renovation project with Soft Power.

Gates on the night will open at 7 pm, passes are up for sale priced at €20 per pass.
