LIT SHAG Week 2016

LIT SHAG Week 2016 is set to take place this February 22-26. The focus will be on positive sexual health and diversity during Limerick Institute of Technology’s SHAG Week. The annual SHAG week event, which takes place across all colleges and universities and is supported by the USI, includes the traditional sexual health campaigns aimed at students.  However, this year’s event at LIT sees the addition of training and education designed specifically to make students and staff more aware of sexual diversity.  Workshops organised by LIT Department of Applied Social Sciences lecturers Karen Sugrue and Jennifer Moran Stritch will examine supports for transgender people and positive sexuality for all.

LIT SHAG Week also sees the launch of a support service for parents of transgender people in the Limerick area.  The group will be a combined project between TransParenCi, GOSHH and the HSE and hopes to be able to offer information and personal support for families of transgender people.  Sociology lecturer and psychotherapist Karen Sugrue is very positive about this development. “We’re excited to be part of  TransParenCi’s Limerick branch announcement, and to offer opportunities to our students to learn more about resources for all kinds of topics having to do with sex, sexuality and loving our bodies.”

The LIT SHAG Week workshops, which are open to the public, include:

Vanessa Lacey – Wednesday 24 Feb 4pm – 6pm –  4A02 – Moylish Campus
