Nikki McMahon from Liveable Limerick said, “Street Feast is a long-established national day of neighbourhood picnics, celebrated across the country and now in its ninth year. We are inviting people to bring a picnic, bring their children, meet friends and make new ones on Sunday, June 10. #Liveablelimerick are working together with local residents, businesses, local groups, new and existing communities to bring Street Feast to the heart of Limerick City.”

The Liveable Limerick Street Feast is supported by Liveable Limerick, invites members of the Limerick City community to connect and reconnect with their neighbors and celebrate the vibrancy of Limerick City in a free family-friendly day.

Ailish Drake from Liveable Limerick said, “The idea is that people bring their own picnic and come and spend time with each other in a healthy and vibrant family-friendly environment. A number of local businesses are enthusiastically supporting the event and will be helping to make it a lively and fun occasion for all who come along on the day. Limerick City is an incredibly diverse and vibrant urban location but sometimes we don’t celebrate or even realize it. Events like Street Feast build a sense a community and makes a place a more fun place to live and work in. We are working on behalf of local communities and businesses to liaise with Limerick and City Council to close the street to traffic for three hours on Sunday afternoon on the 10th of June between 2 pm and 5 pm.”

Local resident Brian Leddin says, “I am excited and looking forward to the Street Feast. Catherine Street has had a new lease of life in the last few years and it’s a great location for a city centre street party. It will be fantastic to see the street full of people enjoying themselves on Sunday 10th”

Liveable Limerick has been campaigning for a worldwide initiative to be brought to Limerick, known as Summer Streets or Sunday Streets, where some streets are closed to traffic on Sundays and quickly transformed into public space revealing the streets potential for other uses, such as picnics, dance, games, cooking, eating, a place to meet and connect.

Niki McMahon added, “We see Liveable Limerick Street Feast, this year taking place on Catherine Street, as an opportunity for residents, local groups, local businesses, new and existing communities from across the city centre to come together and use the street as their very own public space. All you need is a picnic!”
