Five siblings from Limerick are running 500km in different parts of the world in memory of their mother, Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Clifford to support Breast Cancer Ireland.
Speaking about the fundraiser, the siblings said, “In memory of our Mom Liz, we are running 500k around the world in the month of May to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland.
“Our mom faced breast cancer with incredible strength. She was first diagnosed in 2015, and again in 2016, and fought both battles with resilience and determination.”
Writing on the GoFundMe page, the family explained her most recent illness was “very different”, they said, “It progressed quickly, with symptoms that were difficult to recognise early, and we lost her after a short and incredibly tough battle.”

Explaining why they chose to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland, “Through this experience, we’ve seen just how important awareness, early detection, and continued research are. In her memory, we are raising funds for Breast Cancer Ireland to support vital work in understanding symptoms, improving early diagnosis, and helping others get the best possible chance at treatment.”
The siblings living in different parts of the world say their mother was “so proud” of the lives they built in London, New York, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi; noting, “In her memory, each of her 5 children are running 100km in each of these cities”.
Asking for the public to show their support, they said, “If you’re able to contribute, no matter how small, it would mean so much to us. And if you can’t donate. Sharing this page would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us honour our mom’s memory and support a cause that means so much to us.”
With a target of €15,000, the fundraiser has so far raised more than €13,000, and donations can be made on the GoFundMe page.
