LSAD Graduate Show 2019 in LIT’s 167 year History to Open this weekend

 

 

The largest ever Graduate Show  in the 167 year history of the Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT will open this Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Clare Street Campus, Limerick. 

 

Annie Fletcher, Director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art will officially open the ambitious nine-day graduate show at 3pm.  The work on display this year spans the output of 12 undergraduate programmes in art, design and media, and encompasses  the entire LIT Clare Street campus of LSAD.  For the first time, the Limerick show also features the work of LSAD digital arts students from the LIT Clonmel Campus. This showcase will include game art and design, digital animation production and creative media.

 

From June 1 to June 9, 10am to 5pm, visitors are free to explore the diverse work of more than 200 emerging designers and artists, with work from students of ceramics, painting, printmaking, graphic design communication, sculpture and combined media, fashion, animation and motion design, photography, film, video, fashion knitwear and textiles, and digital arts programmes all on display.

 

Limerick School of Art and Design Dean Mike Fitzpatrick said, “Increasingly the LSAD Graduate Show 2019 is an unmissable event in Limerick’s cultural calendar. The breadth of this show reflects the growth and dynamism of LSAD, one of the largest schools of art and design in Ireland. With over 1,200 students, the school has recently expanded to include BSc programmes in music technology, creative broadcasting and visual effects. One of its key strengths are the impressive range of external collaborations these graduating students have participated in.”

 

One such student is final year Photography, Film, Video student Louise Wallace, who with other LSAD students Brid Murphy and Gianna Tomasso has already worked on the CAMP project, a commissioned project with the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life. The celebrated art work conveys the identity and lived experiences of some Irish Travellers.  

 

Other collaborations worked on by this graduating cohort include projects with Georgia Tech in the US, Animation Dingle Festival, the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, the Unwrap Fashion Festival and an ongoing animation project for The Cranberries final album.

 

The LSAD Graduate Show is also an exhibition of prize winning work from across fine art and design including the Fashion Future Makers competition. On display will be the work of Fashion Knitwear and Textiles graduate Shauna Ward, whose collection of woven, laser-cut and digital design won the LEO Creative Enterprise Prize. 

 

“This blend of traditional and new technologies reflects the strengths of art and design education at LSAD,” said Mr Fitzpatrick.

 

LSAD is also leading the way in the Irish fashion world, as the only Irish college selected again to participate at London Graduate week. The school will be represented by BA Fashion student Roisin Ni Loinghsigh. The Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT also boasts the winner of the 2019 Student Designer of the Year. This honour went to BA Fashion student Holly-Rose Twomey from Youghal who received her award at the prestigious Irish Fashion Innovation Awards (IFIA).

 

The Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT Graduate Show will take place from June 1 to June 9, 10am to 5pm. The show will be opened on June 1 at 3pm by Annie Fletcher, Director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
