European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald, “already ticking boxes” as preparation for the 2027 Ryder Cup gets underway following a trip to Adare Manor

Luke Donald, Ryder Cup Europe Captain for the 2027 competition at Adare Manor, has said preparations are already underway with the appointment of Edoardo Molinari as Vice-Captain, and an early trip to Adare Manor.
Speaking at a recent press conference following his practice round at Aronimink for the captain’s 18th PGA Championship, Donald took questions about his preparation and his experience at Adare Manor in April.
When asked about the beginning of his third tenure as Ryder Cup Captain, he said, “Got in a little trip to Adare last month. Had a good look at the golf course, had a good look at the hotel, and progress has started. Yeah, it’s early days, but we’re already ticking a few boxes and enjoying the journey again.”
Donald led Europe to victory in Rome in 2023 and made it back-to-back wins for Ryder Cup Europe at Bethpage in September 2025 as he now aims to make history by retaining the championship for a third consecutive year.
The Ryder Cup Captain said Ireland hosting the 2027 competition was a factor in his decision to return as captain, having enjoyed playing golf on the island in the past, and paying tribute to the fans. He said, “I think we could create a great environment for the Ryder Cup and one that it truly deserves. I think it will be a nice way to end a Ryder Cup, being in Ireland with those kinds of great golf fans.”
Speaking about Adare Manor as the venue, Donald said the “beautiful parkland course” will lend itself to the competition, commenting on the course, he said, “It’s a beautiful Tom Fazio. Looks like a really pretty golf course, parkland. A decent amount of space there. It’s not necessarily narrow. They did a regrassing this last summer for the option to potentially grow rough if we want to, and narrow some of the fairways.
“It’s just a beautiful parkland course in the southwest of Ireland, five-star manor house that has a lot of history. I think it will be a tremendous venue for a Ryder Cup. It’s not a typical Irish links course by any means, but it’s certainly a very good golf course.”
The Ryder Cup comes to Adare Manor, Limerick, from Tuesday, September 14 to Sunday, September 19, with matches being played from the 17th to the 19th, expecting more than 250,000 golf fans throughout the week.
