Lunchtime at the Lime Tree Theatre

The premiere of Anne-Marie O’Farrell’s song cycle, set to James Joyce’s Pomes Penyeach takes place at the Lime Tree Theatre on Tuesday 24th February at 1pm.

It’s scored for soprano, harp and string quartet, and Anne-Marie is accompanied by Colette Delahunt and the RTÉ Con Tempo Quartet. It’s the first time these poems have been set to music by a single composer. Also featuring in the concert is a solo cello work, In Mary’s Eye, inspired both by the name of the college, and by the outdoor murals by Joe Caslin of teenage boys around Limerick city and this piece will be performed by Adrian Mantu. This event is part of her activity as AEPE Composer in Residence at Mary Immaculate College in association with the Lime Tree Theatre and funded by the Arts Council. 

Anne-Marie O’Farrell is noted for her transcriptions of keyboard, lute and pedal harp repertoire for the Irish harp, and also for the unique levering techniques which she continues to develop on this instrument. As a result of her innovations in this area, she was consultant to Salvi harp makers on the design of their Irish harp, the Livia.
