Made in Limerick is the ultimate hub for supporting local craft makers this Christmas as the Co-op celebrates its 9th year
Made in Limerick on Henry Street is the perfect stop for shoppers hoping to support local craft makers this Christmas as the co-op gears up for a 9th-anniversary celebration event on Saturday, December 7.
Home to 13 talented vendors, each offering handcrafted products made with love and care from jewellery, ceramics, knitwear, and linen/silk textiles, to paintings, decorative glass, wood products, framed artworks and skincare products. The store at 113 Lower Henry Street near Limerick Museum showcases local arts and crafts.
Vendors like Clair, who specialises in ceramic pottery, and Jackie O’Mahony, known for her bespoke crafts, are just a few of the local artists whose work captures the spirit of Limerick City and promotes the region’s incredible creative talent.
Jackie told I Love Limerick, “It’s very important, for us as the makers, for people to come and see what fantastic products we produce, most of them locally made. People need to know we’re here and the fantastic products that we provide and a lot of them are actually art.”
Margaret, aka Mrs Pebbles, transforms pebbles into stunning artwork for every occasion, while Daiva brings silk and linen to life with her hand-painted textiles.
With 13 local vendors, the co-operative support doesn’t stop there as the group also hosts 14 other Limerick craft makers’ products, with Daiva encouraging people to support local craft makers this Christmas, “People have to think that it’s touched by hands, we work long, and it comes from inspiration. We have to think about that, a lot of consideration goes into each piece, so it’s timeless. You are really investing in something that you’re buying. It’s really important.”
The celebration on December 7th will feature 10 per cent discounts, mulled wine, mince pies, and Christmas tunes and every penny spent supports local craft makers, with Clair of Lough Gur Pottery saying, “Everything here is suitable for a Christmas gift really.”
Clair said, “We’re 9 years on the go, we’re a co-op, we’ve been running since 2005 and this Saturday we’re having a special Christmas shopping day. So there will be 10 per cent off, and there will be mulled wine, mince pies, and Christmas tunes to get you all in the Christmas spirit. Hopefully, you’ll come in, support all our local makers and buy your Christmas gifts here because there are loads on offer!”
Visitors can also explore a range of quirky ceramics, vibrant knitwear, and intricate jewellery created by members like Eileen, who collaborates with two other jewellers, Alice and Donata. Their pieces, along with the artistry of others in the co-op, are a testament to the creativity thriving in Limerick.
