Shannon Group CEO Mary Considine has welcomed the addition of a new Ryanair Malta service from Shannon Airport.

The first-ever scheduled Ryanair Malta service will commence from Sunday, March 27, and will run until Thursday, October 27. The Malta service from Shannon Airport will operate twice weekly, each Thursday (departing Shannon at 5.25 pm) and Sunday (departing Shannon at 10.40 am).

Malta is expected to be a popular destination with holidaymakers for its warm climate, breathtaking landscapes, and historic sites, and brings the number of Ryanair services available from Shannon Airport next summer to 20.

“We know that restoring connectivity is important to our airport customers and that is why we have been working hard with our airline partners to create exciting holiday opportunities,” Mary Considine said.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our airport customers another great destination with the Malta service from Shannon Airport. This brings to 20 the number of destinations Ryanair will serve from Shannon next summer including the three new Ryanair services which began operation last month to Fuerteventura, Birmingham and Budapest.

“With its warm climate, breath-taking landscapes and UNESCO World Heritage sites, Malta will undoubtedly be a popular destination this summer for sun-seekers and those who want to experience its culture.”

The new Malta service is part of Ryanair’s summer schedule which will deliver over 60 weekly flights from Shannon Airport to 20 destinations in 2022.

These destinations include Barcelona-Reus, Stanstead, Gatwick, Corfu, Malaga, Krackow, and Manchester, and many more.

The news of the new service comes just weeks after Shannon Airport announced the reintroduction of their Aer Lingus Shannon to New York/Newark service which will be reintroduced from March 27, 2022.

A Ryanair service from Shannon to Turin, Italy will commence weekly starting from December to capture the winter ski market.

Mayor of Limerick City and County, Daniel Butler, encourages commuters and holidaymakers to utilise Shannon Airport, saying, “It is vitally important that people and businesses support these new routes and choose to fly from Shannon. It is only through ongoing usage that Shannon can grow its services and routes.”
