Spanish fashion store Mango is set to open a new store at the former Debenhams building in Limerick City Centre

Spanish fashion retailer, Mango, has been confirmed as the newest tenant for a major Limerick City store on Limerick’s O’Connell Street, sending “a strong signal of confidence in Limerick City”.
The high street fashion retailer, founded in Barcelona in 1984, is set to take up residence in the former Debenhams building in the heart of the city which has remained vacant since Debenhams went into liquidation in 2020. The building has gone under some substantial refurbishment in recent months, with planning permission for the overall redevelopment including an aparthotel and other retail space. Galway developer Michael McDonagh, with Healy Architects, has undertaken the project, which will develop the art-deco building.
Following the appearance of Mango signage in the store windows, Cllr Maria Donoghue shared her delight on social media, saying, “I am delighted to see the refurbishment and reoccupation of this important building in the heart of Limerick City. Mango already has a strong presence here, and with its significant expansion into this key vacant building, I hope it will attract even more shoppers to support all of our city’s retailers. Well done to Healy Architects for their very attractive work.”
Mango is one of Europe’s leading high street fashion chains and caters to women’s, men’s, teens’, and children’s fashion as well as a homeware collection. The announcement comes as a welcome addition to Limerick City’s retail offering and represents a step forward in the city centre’s retail revival.
The new store will offer clothing, footwear and accessories all designed at Mango’s Barcelona atelier. Combining timeless and versatile staples with more stylish contemporary pieces influenced by the brand’s Mediterranean heritage, Mango’s collection offers quality fashion at reasonable prices. The new store will also reflect Mango’s New Med concept – an interior design inspired by the brand’s Mediterranean heritage and culture, with natural textures, warm tones and sustainable materials that create a bright and welcoming shopping space.
Cllr Donoghue noted the arrival of Mango is a positive investment which helps create an attractive city for people to live in, work in, and visit. She said, “Increasing the population of Limerick city centre remains paramount as a main force for a thriving city; however, continued investment like this helps create a vibrant, thriving urban core where people will want to live and work. Together with the recent completion of its neighbour, Keane’s Jewellers, this development sends a strong signal of confidence in Limerick City.”
An opening date has not been announced for the store as it undergoes its refurbishment.
