Three of Ireland’s top dance artists unite to present Maria Maria Maria at Dance Limerick

Oona Doherty, Emma Fitzgerald, and Maria Nilsson Waller, three of the most exciting dance artists working in Ireland today, have joined forces to bring Maria Maria Maria, an evening of three solo works, to Dance Limerick on Tuesday 29 November at 8pm.  These powerful solos explore the personal, the universal, the idiosyncratic and the mundane with wit, brio and verve.  Lazarus and the Birds of Paradise (Oona Doherty) is a distillation of Northern male youth and the fire of boredom.  Prime (Maria Nilsson Waller) draws inspiration from mythology, science-fiction and 1960s pop culture to trace a journey back from black and white to a life in colour.  Rest (Emma Fitzgerald) weaves song, storytelling and dance in an exploration of the living, dying impermanence of all that surrounds us.

MAria Maria MariaThe three diverse works, spanning the poetic to the punk, are connected by their charismatic and powerful performers, female choreographers who have won acclaim in Ireland and abroad.  Oona Doherty, “standout of 2016 Dublin Dance Festival” (Totally Dublin), Emma Fitzgerald, “a gamine tour de force” (The New York Times) and Maria Nilsson Waller, Tanz Magazine Europe ‘Bearer of Hope’ 2015, break through dance’s boundaries as choreographers who write, compose, play and sing.

Announcing details of Maria Maria Maria, Jenny Traynor, Director of Dance Limerick, said “We’re delighted to welcome these outstanding dance artists to Dance Limerick.  We know Maria Nilsson Waller and Emma Fitzgerald from their exciting performances here previously, and I’m really pleased that they will be joined by Oona Doherty, who was recently selected as an Aerowaves Artist 2017, reflecting the esteem in which she’s held not just in Ireland but on the European stage.  Limerick audiences are in for an extraordinary evening of dance”.
