Mario Puchowski, Manager at Longcourt House Hotel, Newcastle West is taking on the challenge of rollerblading around the Newcastle West area to raise funds for charity.

Mario’s co-workers have put him up to the challenge of rollerblading 300km around Newcastle West over the lockdown period, in the hope of raising €1,500 for the Brothers of Charity based in Newcastle West.

Mario in action!

The Brothers of Charity Services Limerick have twenty-six community houses that supply accommodation to adults with disabilities to help with their day to day needs in the Limerick city and Newcastle West areas. They also carry out community day services which provide skill development programmes and therapeutic services to all people living with intellectual disabilities.

Triona Dore, Sales and Marketing Manager at the Longcourt House Hotel said, “Some of us are going to use this time and try and master a bit of rollerblading also and get behind Mario as he attempts to reach 300 kilometres. It may be Mario who must complete the challenge but as a team, we want to use it as an opportunity to get fit, have fun but raise funds for a very worthy and important service in Newcastle West.”

Triona added, “Maybe others could use this lockdown to get their rollerblades on and brush up on their skating skills or if people want to keep an eye out for Mario as he clocks up the kilometres they can take a picture of him and it post to our social media pages with the #wheresmarionow and at the end of the fundraising, we will have a fantastic prize up for grabs for one of the entrants.”

Mario commented on the event, “Even though we are mainly closed, our Drive-Thru service is remaining successful, and it keeps us busy. In saying that the main obstacle for achieving my 300km target is the weather, rollerblading on wet roads and footpaths really isn’t ideal, but I’m up for the challenge and I’m confident the people of West Limerick will get behind me to encourage me.”

Longcourt House Hotel will be posting regular updates of Mario’s progress including a series of videos from his rollerblading while also leaving clues as to where he has been. People are advised to keep a close eye on social media to follow the fundraiser.

Ela Puchowska, restaurant manager at the Longcourt says, “Lockdown isn’t fun, we all know that, but we’re hopeful that Mario’sRollerblading for Brothers of Charity Challenge will spark a bit of colour and fun for people whilst raising money for an organisation that is at the heart of our community.”
