Treaty United captain Mark Walsh was the latest Treaty United player to reach the 100 appearances milestone when he led out the team in the Markets Field for February 14th’s home game against Cobh Ramblers.

Mark is the only member of Tommy Barrett’s current squad who has been with the club since its inaugural appearance in the League of Ireland. Nenagh native Mark’s first appearance was in Treaty United Senior Men’s team first ever league game away to Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds on March 28th, 2021. In the intervening seasons, Mark has racked up 92 starts and 8 substitute appearances notching 3 goals, his most memorable being a 94th-minute equaliser also against Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds on September 15th, 2023.

Mark joined Tommy Barrett’s first ever squad back in February 2021 when he joined from Tipperary side, Nenagh Celtic. His versatility has seen him deployed in midfield and in the centre of defence during his time with the club. His steely determination and will-to-win meant that he became one of the leaders amongst the squad. He became club captain for the Senior Men’s team at the start of the 2024 season and has retained the armband again for this season.

Manager Tommy Barrett said of Mark, “It’s great to see Mark reach this milestone and it shows his level of commitment especially given the fact that he is a father to two young children. His resilience to come back from a couple of serious injuries over the last few seasons, especially when he suffered a fractured jaw, shows his character.

“He’s a great pro, looks after himself really well and is a really good role model for the younger players in the squad. Mark is probably making up for lost time as he racked up over 30 appearances for Athlone Town as a teenager and then spent quite a bit of his football career at his local club. Nenagh Celtic, before returning to League of Ireland with Treaty. I’m delighted to have Mark as part of the squad.”

Mark’s achievement will be recognised with a presentation prior to the home game against Finn Harps on this coming Friday’ February 28th when Mark’s family and friends will be VIP guests at the Markets Field.
