Owner and Ethical Celebrant Mary O’Donovan has been a part of the wedding industry for over 14 years. While accompanying her husband filming and editing magical moments at several weddings, Mary fell in love with the idea of love.

A recognised and certified celebrant Mary recently decided to launch her business in Limerick. She feels emotions play a great deal in tying two people in a bond of love and there is no better way of channelising those feelings than reliving fond memories.

A part of her role as a celebrant is to recreate moments and memories for all present and to involve everyone in the couples journey of togetherness: “My intention is to make everybody there feel completely part of, and integral to this couple’s very special day. At the very heart of the ceremony, I write with them, their Love Story. It tells the story of who they are together, from when they first met, their first kiss, their journey thus far, the proposal and finally to this, their wonderful wedding day.”

Mary makes every effort to include all present as she recreates memories dear to the couple. “I am always so excited to deliver a ceremony that reflects a couple’s love and uniqueness and helps create the perfect atmosphere for a wonderful day which you will remember for the rest of your lives.”

Couples can choose exactly how they want their special day to play out, “Ideally, it would be nice to have the consultation with a couple 3- 6 months before the wedding date. I need to get to know them, so I can write their unique ceremony, especially the Love story. I send the entire ceremony to the couple for their approval as soon as I’ve written it, and make any changes they wish right up until we have a Final Draft which I would like to have signed off on at one month before the wedding date,” Mary explained.

Couples can choose to include ceremonies such as Handfasting, a popular ancient Celtic custom. The couple’s hands used to be literally tied together, giving way to the expression ‘Tying the Knot’. The knot represents the union of love which grows stronger under pressure. The ceremony has a few variations, you can use one cord and have the hands wrapped by your celebrant or you can choose a variety of colours and have a selection of your guests lay them over the hands. Each colour represents a gift or blessing bestowed upon the marriage. This is a really lovely way to include family and friends in the ceremony.

Other ceremonies include the Sand Ceremony, Unity Candle and Ring Warming. “I feel very honoured and privileged to be in the presence of such love and joy, there is no better feeling than it,” Mary said.
