Announcing the memorial ball, Martina’s family said, “We, the Lynch Family, are thrilled to announce that our 4th Memorial Ball in loving memory of our beautiful daughter and sister, Martina, will take place on Saturday, 14th February 2026

“Join us for an unforgettable night filled with fun, laughter, dancing, and wonderful company — as we come together to celebrate Martina’s life and raise vital funds for a truly worthy charity, The Irish MPS Society.”

The MPS Society is a voluntary support group which represents and supports children and adults suffering from Mucopolysaccharide and related diseases, their families, carers and professionals.

Speaking with Limerick City Community Radio, Martina’s mother, Mary Lynch, said the ball is to honour her daughter’s love for fairy-tale stories, “Her birthday would have been the 12th of February, and she loved Cinderella stories and going to the ball. That’s when we decided to combine things together and run a charity ball in her memory on Valentine’s Day.”

Through meetings and participation in local, national and international forums, the MPS society aims to raise much-needed funding for the research of treatment for those suffering from the MPS diseases, and also raise public awareness of the existence of these rare genetic syndromes.

Many people’s first knowledge that MPS syndromes exist is when a child or relative is diagnosed with the condition. The society hopes to change that, while also providing those people with a support network. The cost of the ticket, available online, will include a prosecco reception, a four-course meal, a live band and a DJ to dance the night away.
