Limerick’s Martina McMahon has won her seventh All-Ireland Senior Softball Singles at a sold-out National Handball Centre in Croke Park

Representing Broadford Handball Club, Martina McMahon has earned her seventh All-Ireland Senior Softball Singles title with victory at a sold-out National Handball Centre in Croke Park.

The Limerick athlete defeated Kildare’s Mollie Dagg as the left-handed player worked hard for the title, coming out on top with a 21-18, 21-7 victory on the day.

GAA Handball congratulated the Limerick woman, saying, “Martina McMahon takes her 7th title in the Ladies Senior Singles All-Ireland Softball Championship Final.

“A fantastic contest put in by Mollie Dagg. Huge congratulations to both players on making it to the finals and putting on such a fantastic display of our game, to a huge crowd in the National Handball Centre.”

Looking back on the win, McMahon told GAA.ie that she felt she was “a bit slow out of the blocks”, praising Dagg’s performance, adding, “Not taking away from Mollie, she played unbelievably, came back well in the first game. It goes to show it’s never over till it’s over.”

“Number seven, I don’t think, no matter how many you have, it’s ever enough, “She told GAA.ie, continuing, “But this one is pretty special; it’s my grandmother’s anniversary on Monday, so I know she’s looking down on me today.”

GAA Handball is one of four Gaelic Games governed by the GAA, including Hurling, Football, and Rounders. Softball is one of two handball sports, along with ‘hardball ‘, played in Ireland and uses a small rubber ball.
