Mary Immaculate College gears up for Open Day on January 17, 2026

Mary Immaculate College graduates describe their college experience as “inspirational” ahead of the upcoming Open Day set for January 17, 2026

As well as post-primary school students, parents, and prospective postgraduate students, the Open Day is a great opportunity for mature students to discover why returning to education offers a unique and enriching experience.

Graduates of Mary Immaculate College (MIC) were recently asked to describe their college experience in one word. Amazing, eventful, rewarding, memorable, inspirational and motivating are just some of the words they used.

MIC is offering the chance to see why graduates find the college an inspiring place to study. Join MIC on Saturday, 17 January, from 10 am to 1 pm on its Limerick campus for the MIC January Open Day.

On the day, prospective students will get the opportunity to explore our Limerick campus and discover all that the College has to offer from its range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, extracurricular activities, exceptional facilities, and supportive learning environment. The event will include programme talks on MIC’s undergraduate degrees on offer at MIC Limerick and MIC Thurles, as well as talks on the College’s over 30 postgraduate programmes, offered from graduate diploma to doctoral level across the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education.

As well as post-primary school students, parents, and prospective postgraduate students, the Open Day is a great opportunity for mature students to discover why returning to education offers a unique and enriching experience.

With a wealth of life experience and practical knowledge, mature students often bring a fresh perspective to their studies, whether they are returning to education for career advancement, personal growth, or to pursue a new passion.

According to Bachelor of Arts student Pat Savage, “I decided I wanted to do something. I always wanted to go to college. I love reading, I love history and English. I looked around and MIC suited me as it was near obviously but also it was small, easy to get around and very friendly. It is everything I thought it would be.”

At postgraduate level, Faculty and Research and Graduate School members will be on hand to answer questions about MIC’s wide range of taught and research programmes

“When I came in here as a mature student, one of my biggest fears was that I would stick out that I’d be different, I’m a lifetime older than most of the students here. But the friendship that’s here and comrades as well, we’re all on a journey of adventure. They’re so friendly and so accommodating and we’re all in this together so there is no issue whatsoever.”

At postgraduate level, Faculty and Research and Graduate School members will be on hand to answer questions about MIC’s wide range of taught and research programmes. The College is a long-established provider of world-class postgraduate opportunities and focuses on student success and well-being and meeting real-world needs in diverse workplaces, both nationally and internationally. Students experience responsive research supervision and mentoring, funding and career development support schemes, and a first-class community of practice.

Open Day attendees will also be able to learn about MIC’s range of scholarships and funding opportunities, such as undergraduate entrance scholarships, postgraduate scholarships, sports scholarships, and other awards and bursaries.
