St Gabriel’s School and Centre is dedicated to the care and education of children with disabilities.

It is located in Dooradoyle and has developed over the past half a century into what is today a modern, highly regarded, first choice disability organisation serving children and their families from across the mid-west region.

St Gabriel’s is currently fundraising for its new purpose-built respite centre situated in Mungret which will welcome children with the most complex disabilities, some with life-limiting conditions.

The Mayor’s Ball is traditionally one of the highlights of the social calendar and is a time to celebrate Limerick and the strides that Limerick has made over the past number of years.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr James Collins said: “St Gabriel’s is a charity which is very   close to my heart.  I’m delighted to announce that they will be the beneficiaries of the proceeds of this year’s      Mayor’s Ball.  They carry out wonderful work for families right across Limerick and the entire mid-west region.”

“It has been an extraordinary year in Limerick, one of which I’ve been very proud to have been part of as first   citizen. The Ball celebrates our achievements over the last 12 months and there will be plenty of surprises and fun     on the night, with the best of Limerick food on the menu.”

Máire O’Leary, CEO with St Gabriel’s said: “St Gabriel’s is delighted to have been chosen as the local charity     in association with the Mayor’s Ball. It is a wonderful opportunity for St Gabriel’s to be involved with this  prestigious event and we are very grateful to Mayor James Collins for his support. Proceeds from the event will go  towards St Gabriel’s Children’s Respite House fund.”

“The provision of respite is an essential short-term intervention that supports families through difficult times and enables them to care for their children at home and in the long term. When up and running the respite house will be a place that families will feel secure knowing their children will be loved and cared for in a nurse-led setting and where the children themselves will also be happy to come to.”

Tickets are on sale from the Office of the Mayor, Limerick City and County Council, 061 557334 or email [email protected].
