In 2018, Meg organised a ‘pink’ themed party in Mike Houlihan’s 41 bar in Kilmallock. It was a huge fundraising success with all proceeds again going to the Mid Western Cancer Foundation.

Determined to do more, Pinkalicious by Megalicious organised another fundraiser event, ‘From My Wardrobe to Yours’. The people of Kilmallock and beyond were asked to donate dresses, skirts, tops, pants, and bags suitable to be sold in Colaiste Iosaef secondary school.

Through these events and other fundraising activities from October to November 2018, Meg achieved her fundraising goal and presented a check for over €30,000 to the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation in January 2019 and exceeded her original fundraising goal of €25,000.

The Mid-Western Cancer Foundation is a local cancer charity with all proceeds going towards enhancing the services of patients and towards valuable research in the University Hospital Limerick.

Meg, a native of Kilmallock, has stage four metastatic breast cancer and has become a beacon of light in the community, with her hard work and determination to turn her diagnosis into a positive force through various fundraiser events.

Meg said, “My two little boys are 5 and 6 in junior and senior infants and for me, the biggest thing is that they will always have a close friendship and a close relationship with the people of the town young and old”.

On Friday, October 4,  Pinkalicious by Megalicious organised a screening of ‘Calendar Girls’ in Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock, with all proceeds also going to the Mid Western Cancer Foundation. It was another successful event and at the event Meg made a big announcement.

Med said,  “I wanted to do something a bit different and something that my kids would keep going when I might not be here. So tonight I am looking for 12 women to do a calendar who are willing to bare it all. Tonight is just the start of something bigger and I cannot wait for the big reveal of the calendar in January 2020.”

Meg’s life motto is “Every moment matters” and this tour de force is certainly makings things happen. The fundraiser events are just what Kilmallock needs, with the whole community rallying around Meg in support, highlighting what a small community can do for a great cause.

Meg’s courage and enthusiasm have not gone unnoticed with Meg saying, “I was awarded Limerick’s Person of the Month in January 2019 and I was up for nomination for Limerick’s Person of the Year at an awards ceremony this past February.

“To say I was honoured is an understatement. It’s creating another memory for my kids and family to have forever and that’s all I want,” she added.

Meg’s journey has not been easy but she battles on with her never-ending quest to raise funds and bring awareness to this cause, she said,  “This is our reality now, it’s not ideal but as a family, we are determined to make memories and enjoy our time together for however long that may be.”
