The Limerick Mexican community have announced plans for their Independence Day Celebration, which will see traditional food, music, and dance come to Wickham Way on Saturday, September 13
Limerick’s Mexican Community have announced its plans for their Mexican Independence Day Celebration, giving the community a chance to “feel part of this tradition” while far from home and giving the opportunity to share their culture and history with the wider Limerick community.
The event is set to take place on Saturday, September 13, at Wickham Way, with festivities running from 5 pm to 9 pm where fiesta-goers will be treated to traditional Mexican food, music, dance, and a vibrant community atmosphere to celebrate our culture and heritage.

The event comes off the back of a successful celebration in 2024, which saw great support for the celebration that brought colour, music, and incredible tastes to Wickham Way.
This year’s event will see Mexican-themed face painting, Piñata, and a historical reenactment of “El Grito de Dolores,” marking the beginning of Mexico’s fight for independence, among other activities.
The organisers of the event shared their excitement at sharing one of Mexico’s “most meaningful” celebrations in Limerick as they gear up for the event. They said, “This celebration is very important to us, as Mexican Independence Day is one of the most meaningful festivities in our country.
“Being far from home, we want to feel part of this tradition while also celebrating the bonds we share with Ireland. Both nations have a history of resilience and the fight for independence, and we are proud to honour Ireland as well.”
Speaking about the welcome the community has received in Limerick, the organisers said, “We are grateful to this country that has welcomed us, and this celebration is a way of sharing our roots, our joy, and our friendship with the wider community in Limerick.”
