Limerick Musical Society set to stage Michael Collins – A Musical Drama at University Concert Hall from March 19 to 21, 2026
Limerick Musical Society (LMS) is thrilled to stage ‘MICHAEL COLLINS – a Musical Drama’ from March 19th to March 21st, 2026, at the University Concert Hall, Limerick, by arrangement with the Michael Collins Production Trust.
LMS has a proud tradition of bringing high-quality musical theatre to Limerick audiences, and this production promises to continue this legacy.
This is a gripping and powerful drama of a changing period in Ireland’s history, interwoven in music, song and emotion. The show had its premier in 2008 at the Cork Opera House and was the brainchild of the very talented Mr. Bryan Flynn, who died at a young age in 2014.

This production is in the capable hands of the talented production team of Des Henn, Director, including production movement, with LMS extending a warm welcome to Michael Young, Musical Director, including choral work.
Des explains, “This is a very special, moving, and dynamic piece of musical theatre which brings the 1916 Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War to life while also telling a beautiful and moving love story. The story portrays Ireland’s turbulent years through the eyes of Collins.”
“We are looking for a strong ensemble and a cast of dedicated performers (male and female). The history of the period dictates that the show will also need a large male participation, for chorus and leads.”
Michael stresses, “It is a great opportunity to be part of something special.”
There are some truly beautiful, epic, passionate and moving numbers with magnificent harmonies in this show, such as ‘Fly the Flag of Freedom’ and ‘Every Heart Awaken’. It is sometimes described as the Irish ‘Les Misérables’, and it demands a significant choral presence. For anyone who loves a good singing challenge, this is a fantastic opportunity.
On Thursday, September 18, at 8 pm, in the People’s Museum’s Blue Gallery Ballroom, 2 Pery Square, Limerick, LMS are holding an ‘Information Evening’ for anyone who may be interested in getting involved and be part of something special.
LMS said, “This production requires a large and talented cast to do justice to its grand scale and moving musical score. The show is known for its powerful choral arrangements, making it a big choral piece that will be both challenging and rewarding for performers. We are looking for males and females to be part of a strong chorus. We need YOU! All are welcome to attend and look forward to meeting you.”
The Limerick Musical Society encourages anyone with an interest in performing, whether as a principal or in the chorus, to attend the information evening. It will be an opportunity to meet the production team, gain an overview of the show, discuss choral pieces, rehearsal plans and learn audition dates.
They added, “We will then finish up with a Q&A session. This is a chance to be part of a truly historic production and help tell the story of one of Ireland’s most iconic heroes.”
Auditions will subsequently be held (for the lead roles) on October 18th in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
