Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) was pleased to welcome Michael McNamara, Member of the European Parliament, to its Campus this week for a constructive engagement focused on regional regeneration, social enterprise, and the role of EU supports in strengthening local communities.

During his visit, Mr. McNamara met with LEDP leadership to learn more about the organisation’s work in delivering community-led economic development, pathways to employment supports, and LEDP’s future plans for maximising the Campus outputs for the benefit of Limerick’s most marginalised communities.

Discussions centred on the importance of targeted EU funding streams in supporting disadvantaged communities and driving sustainable regional growth.  The visit included a tour of the LEDP Campus where Mr. McNamara saw first-hand the impact of collaborative partnerships and education and training initiatives designed to promote social inclusion and economic participation.

Speaking following the visit, Mr. McNamara acknowledged the significance of locally driven development models, “Community-based initiatives such as LEDP demonstrate how strategic investment, combined with strong local leadership, can deliver meaningful economic and social impact. Since its inception, LEDP has made a hugely significant contribution to Limerick and has remained a key stakeholder or many years in Limerick’s regeneration.

“I commend LEDP for continuously innovating and demonstrating what focused social enterprise can achieve. Ensuring that European funding mechanisms remain accessible and responsive to regional needs is essential.”

Niall O’Callaghan, CEO of LEDP, commented, “We were delighted to welcome Michael to our Campus and to highlight the work being carried out here by LEDP, and also our partner tenants. Engagement at European level is critical in ensuring that communities like ours continue to benefit from programmes that support regeneration, employment, and social enterprise.”

LEDP continues to advocate for policies and funding frameworks that enable long-term, sustainable development, particularly in areas experiencing economic disadvantage and social exclusion. Of particular concern, is the planned wind down by the Department for Housing, Local Government and Heritage by 2029 of the Economic and Social Intervention Fund (ESIF). ESIF, administered by Limerick City and County Council, is a critical instrument to help address disadvantage in Limerick City’s regeneration communities.
