20-year-old Michelle Grimes from Coonagh, County Limerick flew home from London to surprise her family this week having recently been signed to an exciting new girl band “Office Girls” in the UK.

Michelle has a soulful voice and has played the piano from a young age, she said: “My Grandad paid for piano lessons when I was five and I think my Mam and Dad thought I would play it for a few months but they couldn’t stop me, I was addicted and I was singing all the time. I am singing all my life, I went to Spotlight Stage School and I have done a few gigs around town. I have always wanted to do something like this and when the opportunity came along I had to go for it. My Mam saw the advert for a position in the band on the computer, by then the auditions were over but my Mam encouraged me so I sent my video audition anyway and that was it, the next day I got a phone call saying they wanted to meet me in London. A week later they confirmed I was part of the band.”

Michelle is currently on placement from her course in the University of Limerick: “I am in UL studying Voice and Dance and it has worked out well because I am on co op at the minute so this experience is my work placement. The highlight of being in the band so far has been shooting the video for out new song “Dirty Work” it was so amazing with the lights, camera and make up. We are built up to all the hype and it was so great.”

Michelle added: “It is mad to be honest but I am ready for it now, all the small stuff I have done built me up to this moment, at the end of the day I am just a Limerick girl living my dream! It is all go, everything gets changed so quickly. I am delighted, I love it to bits and this is definitely what I am meant to be doing. I see us on stage, we need to be doing concerts I really want to just go for it and shoot another video for one of our original songs.”

Speaking about her musc influences, Michelle said: “My grandad had me listening to jazz like Etta James so I love that and I love R&B like John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and Tina Turner, I love all the divas. My mam always listens to 80s music.”

Michelle and the new band need all of the support they can get from Limerick people. Follow their antics on social media, listen to their music and tell your friends about their catchy new song “Dirty Work”.
