Limerick filmmaker Michelle Ryan has carved out a unique niche in the filmmaking industry by highlighting the behind-the-scenes work and effort involved in major film and TV production.

Inspired by behind-the-scenes features from The Lord of the Rings, Michelle’s EPIK Media now works to bring audiences closer to how some of the world’s biggest productions are made.

Speaking with I Love Limerick at the International Women in Film and Television Summit at Adare Manor, Michelle said, “We do all the behind-the-scenes and the making of!  first got into this by watching all the Lord of the Rings extended box sets, of how they made every single part of that film, and that is what I always want to know. Our job, as we see it, is to showcase and promote the amazing craft and talent that goes into the behind-the-scenes of every film and TV production that’s made.”

Her impressive portfolio includes work on major productions such as The Banshees of Inisherin, Barbie, Jurassic World Dominion, and Wednesday, with each project offering unforgettable experiences. Michelle said, “ Barbie was also a standout one. I spent four months in the dream house, which was incredible, and it was so much fun from start to finish. I also spent some time with dinosaurs and Jurassic World Dominion, which was also amazing because it was all puppetry, all went back to the old style of filming, which was so cool.”

Women in Film and TV (WFT) Ireland and WIFT International hosted the 2026 Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) Summit in Adare, welcoming more than 60 WIFT chapters and affiliates from across the globe to the Limerick village from February 4 to 7, 2026. The Summit took place at the Woodlands House Hotel and welcomed senior creatives and executives from around the world for three days of high-level discussion, collaboration and cultural exchange.

Speaking at the summit, Ryan encouraged aspiring women in film to stay active, gain experience, and remain curious, telling I Love Limerick, “ I think the work I did with I Love Limerick was just a perfect example of just being active and being busy. To try and hone your craft, to try and get out there and get any kind of experience and work you can. Work with like-minded people who will encourage that and will help you, and just keep doing that and keep curious as well. Ask questions and be excited about what you do!”

EPIK Media is founded and managed by Michelle, a specialist in BTS DP and a producer; she personally drives each project from start to finish with reams of experience in all aspects of creative video content.

With a background in creative marketing, Michelle has worked in advertising and video production in New York City, London & Ireland, producing a host of promotional content and marketing material for film industry clients such as Universal, Showtime, Working Title, NBC, BBC, PBS, Blinder Films, Playground Entertainment & RTÉ.
