Mid West ARIES – Bringing Recovery Education in Mental Health

Mid West ARIES (Advancing Recovery in Ireland Education Service) has recently announced their Autumn/Winter 2018 timetable with details of their range of free educational courses and workshops which are designed to promote recovery and well-being in mental health.

ARIES aims to provide the Mid West region with an inspirational and inclusive educational programme on recovery and well-being. A defining feature of ARIES is the approach it takes when developing and delivering modules. The topics of the courses are created and delivered by people with lived experience, family members and staff working within the services. This is called co-production. This means that everyone has a say in what goes into the courses.

The timetable of events for the autumn/winter months in 2018.

ARIES came about as a result of research done in 2014 to look at offering courses on recovery in mental health in the region. This research found that people in the Mid West region wanted to see courses available to people who have experienced mental health difficulties, family members, staff and the general public.

It is hoped that the workshops will enhance a feeling of connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment for those attending. One woman who attended a previous workshop said: “A big thank you as I go on to be a happier, healthier person because I took part. Thanks for sharing your stories and listening to mine.”

An open morning took place in June to recruit volunteers to be involved in the expansion and roll out of ARIES services in the Mid West. ARIES continues to expand their curriculum and new courses include “Living Well with Anxiety”.

Mid West ARIES regularly organises co-production sessions to create new courses.  People who are interested in sharing their mental health experiences can get involved to help create new courses (co-production) to be delivered in Limerick. There’s a place for everyone in Mid West ARIES.

People can enjoy Mid West ARIES as a Student (attending courses), Co-Producer (creating material), or Co-Facilitator (delivering courses).

Courses are open to all – those who use services, staff, carers, and members of the general public and are free of charge. Anyone who would like to attend a workshop is welcome to come along on the day or if they would like to find out more information then please contact the ARIES team on 085-8768517 or email [email protected]. Please see timetable for further information on courses available or visit Mid West ARIES on Twitter for up to date information.
