Miles 4 Rian aims to raise essential funds for student Rian O’Halloran

Miles 4 Rian is a charity event created for the sole purpose of raising essential funds for St. Clement’s College, Limerick student, Rian O’Halloran.

15-year-old Rian was an avid sportsman with St Mary’s RFC and Shelbourne AFC. Rian was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, in April of this year. Unfortunately, due to the type of cancer Rian has the young boy lost his leg to the cancer and is now undergoing treatment in Crumlin Children’s Hospital as the cancer has spread further.

Rian has been unable to return to school since his diagnosis but his teachers and school friends have not forgotten him.

The O’Halloran family is in the process of planning the remodeling of their home to make it easier for Rian to access. The teachers of Rian would like to make this easier for the family by fundraising for them.

David Tidswell, a science teacher at St Clement’s, is gearing up for a grueling 24-hour challenge. Mr. Tidswell will be running one mile an hour for 24 hours. It will begin on Wednesday, December 2, and continue into the night of Thursday, December 3. Each “Mile with Meaning” will also be supported by a corporate sponsor. The event will be live-streamed with the sponsors being mentioned throughout the campaign. The organisers are asking can you/your company provide corporate sponsorship for one of the miles? St Clement’s is recruiting anyone who is willing to offer their help to reach their target of €50,000

Mr. Tidswell is hoping that teachers, students, friends, and family members of Rian’s will run a mile each beside him on the day or hop on a bike and ride along with him. Of course, a lot of this will depend on the Covid restrictions at the time.

24 hours is a long time to run for someone who only began running during the first lockdown, but Mr. Tidswell has embarked on a training schedule, running most nights to get in shape for the challenge.

St Clement’s is recruiting sports players from rugby, football and GAA, any social media influencers, media personalities, and musicians that are willing to offer their help in the fundraiser.

In the beginning, the target for the GoFundMe had been at €24,000 which would have half funded the remodeling costs, however after the overwhelming response since the fundraiser has begun the aim is now to cover the full cost of the remodeling which is €50,000.
