Milford Hospice Memorial Walk 2021 Walk from a Distance fundraiser
By I Love Limerick correspondent Peter Cooney
Milford Hospice Memorial Walk 2021 will take place from Sunday, May 23rd to Thursday, May 27th. This year once again they are appealing to the public to complete the walk from a distance, in their own locality and in their own time, by doing 1km a day for 5 days.
While they recognise, you may not be able to walk collectively, you can do so in spirit by doing the walk on your own or with members of your households, carrying the memories with you.
There will be a special blessing ceremony on Friday, May 28th , which will be streamed live on their social media and will give all participants in the walk to virtually link up in solidarity to remember their bereaved.
The staff at Milford Care Centre will write the names submitted on individual memorial ribbons to ensure that the carrying a tribute ribbon element of the walk is maintained. The tribute ribbons will later in the year be placed under the Centre’s Christmas Tree in the Milford Care Centre Chapel.

Carol Murray, Senior Social Worker of Milford Care Centre urged people to get involved in their upcoming Memorial Walk saying, “We encourage you to walk from a distance with us, in your own locality and in your own time, by doing 1km a day for 5 days.
You can register using themilfordcarecentre.ie website, anything you can do to support us would be appreciated. Thank you and behalf of us all here at Milford, please stay safe.”
Declan Deegan, Head of Human Resources of Milford Care Centre added, “Last year thanks to you we had a very successful ‘Walk from a Distance’ virtual event and this year hopefully you can join us again to make it bigger and better. It was great to see so many people interact with us last year as you did your 1 km a day over a 5-day period and you were walking for those you loved.
This year I am appealing to all sporting organisations and companies in the region to come and support us in our event, we would really appreciate your support.”
