Moyross 5K for World Suicide Awareness Day calls on the community to ‘show up and support one another’

Back 2 Boston and Moyross Community Hub invite the public to take to the streets for their Moyross 5K for World Suicide Awareness Day on Thursday, September 10

The organisers invite people to run or walk 2.5k or 5k in a bid to show that “every step counts and every person matters” as a way of showing support for each other

Moyross Community Hub and Back 2 Boston are calling for the community to take part in their Moyross 5K for World Suicide Awareness Day on Thursday, September 10.

The organisers invite people to run or walk 2.5k or 5k in a bid to show that “every step counts and every person matters” as a way of showing support for each other.

“Whether you run or walk, come and be a part of the Moyross 5K for World Suicide Awareness Day,” said Moyross Sport & Physical Activity Hub, adding, “Every step counts. Every person matters. Let’s show up, support one another, start the conversation and remind each other no one walks alone.”

Joining in the event are members of the Back 2 Boston Running Club whose mission is to empower individuals from disadvantaged areas and those in recovery by providing them with the opportunity to run and ultimately guide runners to participate in a 5k, 10k, or Marathon.

John Kinsella of Back 2 Boston told I Love Limerick that the group is proud to show their support; he said, “We believe running can be about so much more than fitness. It can give people purpose, routine, friendship and a sense of belonging. For many people, taking that first step can be the hardest part, but once they do, they can discover a strength in themselves they never knew they had.”

The inspirational Limerick runner said the sport is a great way to “create connection”, saying, “We know that exercise and running cannot solve everything, but they can create connection, open conversations and give people a positive focus when life is difficult.

“That is what Back 2 Boston is all about — using running to bring people together, build confidence and show that where you come from does not have to determine where you are going.”

The event is set to take place on Thursday, September 10, starting at the Moyross Community Enterprise Centre, calling on everyone to “Let’s show up!” for the 7 pm start.
