These innovative vehicles underscore the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting a sustainable, circular economy.

“This innovation allows us to power waste collection with waste,” explained Joe Cleary of Mr Binman in an interview with I Love Limerick. “We collect organic waste, compost it, extract the methane gas produced, and use it as clean gas fuel for these trucks. This means our customers’ waste helps drive the very trucks that serve them.”

Efficiency Meets Environmental Responsibility

The new trucks feature a split-body design, enabling simultaneous collection of two waste types, such as recycling and organic waste, while keeping them separate.

Joe Cleary highlighted the benefits: “Fewer trucks on the road means lower emissions. On one side, you can collect recycling and on the other side, you can collect food waste or general waste. Both are stored separately in the body of the truck. Materials collected are then sorted separately at our facility, ready to be recycled or recovered.”

A Community-Driven Approach

Mr Binman’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond technology to community engagement. The company actively participates in initiatives like Team Limerick Cleanup, promoting cleaner neighbourhoods.

“Being at the heart of the community is essential to us,” Joe Cleary added. “We believe in giving back to the areas where we operate and where our customers live.”

A Greener Future

With these biogas-powered trucks, Mr Binman achieves another milestone in its mission to lead in environmental responsibility. While proud of this accomplishment, the company remains committed to advancing sustainability initiatives in the years to come.

“This is just the beginning,” Cleary said. “We aim to push further, innovate more, and inspire change.”
