Balloons and streamers decorated the Pery Hotel in Glentworth St this past Saturday as a panel of judges decided who would be crowned Mr Ms .Gay Limerick 2016. Paul Ryder, dressed in a glammed out nun outfit, hosted the occasion for the fifth consecutive year.

There was a panel of six judges; Eamon O Maonaigh, Strokers Bar, Killian Fitzgerald, PRO and Parade coordinator for last year’s Pride Festival, Leona Long, Barnardo’s children’s charity, Evan Kennedy, the man behind drag impersonator Madonna Lucia and one half of Limerick drag duo Sheila and Madonna, Jenny Hannon, a social worker and Konrad Im who was crowned Mr Gay Ireland 2016 this past November.

The doors opened at 9pm and guests started spilling in to find a table and seats. All Mr Ms  Gay Limerick 2016 contestants went through various rounds of swimwear, formal wear and also delved into deeper questions about what charitable cause they stood for and what they envisioned for the LGBTI community. They each chose a charity to represent and gave their own individual reasons for why they supported them. This would help finalise and round up the judges decision about who would represent Limerick in the LGBTI community.

In between rounds were also performances from former Drag Hens Den winner Ivanna Boogie and others. There was also James Ryan, a magician who was making his way around the tables at the venue to do tricks to entertain the guests.

Eventually, Christian Moretti won Mr Gay Limerick 2016, Michelle Brown won Ms Gay Limerick 2016 and Martin Power won the crowd favourite. They were received with a massive round of applause and cheers from the ecstatic crowd.
