MS Ireland Mid-West Region Art Exhibition opened in Dooradoyle Library
An MS Ireland Mid-West Region Art Exhibition supported by the Limerick Office has been opened in Dooradoyle library, Limerick and will run until 7th July.
The MS Ireland Mid-West Region Art Exhibition is made up of 35 pieces of work by 7 artists who have been attending art classes for the last number of years In the MS Ireland Mid-West office. The classes are supported by the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board. The artists that are presenting their work in their exhibition are living with MS. MS is a chronic neurological condition that can affect a person’s health and lifestyle. Approximately 9,000 people are living with MS in Ireland. The purpose of the art group is to provide a space for people to meet and to express themselves in a way that they feel most comfortable.
The purpose of the exhibition was to showcase the varied work undertaken by a group of dedicated artists over the last few years. According to class tutor Hugh McMahon “It is a big deal to have your art exhibited, this group have done an excellent job, they are an example to all of us.’
Patricia Daly one of the artists whose work is on show at the exhibition explained further, ‘It is quite something to have your work put up there for all to see. I am really proud of the group for doing this, we have even had some enquiries about selling some of the work which is something that I never expected.’
Regional Community Worker, Mary McCusker further explained the reasons for holding the exhibition, ‘MS Ireland is all about supporting the person with MS to achieve their potential. The women that have exhibited their work are doing just that.’
The artists exhibiting their work are Betty Lawlor; Ann O’Kelly: Mary O’Reilly; Noreen O’Shea; Colette O’Grady; Claire Carroll; Laura O’Connell and Patricia Daly.
