Free Mum Child Mental Health Talk hosted by three Limerick charities
by ilovelimerick correspondent Chloe O’Keeffe
A free Mum Child Mental Health Talk will be hosted by three Limerick charities this Thursday, June 14 at the Dooradoyle Library.
Mental health charities, MyMind, ABC Start Right Limerick, and the Limerick Mental Health Association have teamed up to invite local mums to a Mum Child Mental Health Talk evening, including an information, education and advice session.
ABC Start Right Limerick is an early intervention, and prevention initiative focusing on the ante-natal to 6 years age-group in the city centre and north side of Limerick city. The programme aims to enhance child development and well-being, provide capacity-building supports to parents, and tackle educational disadvantage using evidence-informed approaches and interventions.
MyMind Centre for Mental Wellbeing was founded by psychologist Krystian Fikert in 2006, as a not-for-profit provider of accessible mental health care. Centres in Dublin, Cork and Limerick provide multilingual counselling and psychotherapy services. Fees are based upon employment status, offering the unemployed or students affordable services. Revenue generated from full fee clients is reinvested, enabling us to provide services to all. Clients self-refer and appointments are within 72 hours.
Limerick Mental Health Association (LMHA) promotes positive mental health across Limerick City and County. A group of community leaders set up LMHA in 2002. LMHA created and oversees the work of Le Chéile Peer Support Project, which promotes positive mental health within the local community. The charity is helping the community to be well and maintain a positive mental health experience.
The Mum Child Mental Health Talk, which is open to mums of infants to teens runs from 7pm – 9pm with three expert mental health speakers covering topics such as early brain development, tips for supporting your child to grow and learn, why early relationships matter for babies and young children, parental support, and relationships within the family.
There will also be a Question & Answer session at the end of the talk, and a chance for mums of children of all ages to share their own experiences with parenthood.
