For anyone familiar with CrossFit they will know the workouts challenge the body and mind on a daily basis and Ross has chosen one of the most grueling workouts, namely “Murph” to complete as many times as possible in 24 hours. This is a test of both physical and mental ability in aid of a very worthwhile cause that helps so many overcome their own battles and see that life is worth living.

The event starts at 9 am Saturday 11th August in CrossFit Limerick, Ballysimon Road and runs until 9 am Sunday 12th August.

In a nod to the workout’s military roots—it’s named for Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL killed in action in 2005 – CrossFit boxes around the U.S. host a Murph every Memorial Day.

One round of “Murph” entails a one-mile run, 100 Pull-ups, 200 pull-ups, 300 unweighted squats and a one-mile run.

Mental health is so important but more importantly good mental health. It’s a known fact that exercise helps positive mental health and for members getting involved in activities like CrossFit, running, cycling or other forms of physical activity has been a massive help.

This is why CrossFit Limerick led by Ross Flanagan and his friends on Saturday, 11th August are hosting a charity event in aid of My Mind, a small local charity that pioneer a new and sustainable model of community-based and online mental health services that are accessible and affordable to everyone.

MyMind makes mental health support affordable and easy to reach. They offer counseling and psychotherapy in 15 different languages and a session can be face to face (50 O’ Connell St., Limerick) or online, so you do not have to leave your home.

CrossFit is hoping as many people as possible will participate on the day, by completing as many rounds of Murph as your body and mind allow. If injury prohibits you from running don’t worry, you can row or cycle instead. This charity event is about showing solidarity and strength in numbers for their support of positive mental health and the help that is in the local area to aid this.
