Murroe Wood Park is a community recreation and sports facility located in the village of Murroe, County Limerick.

Murroe Wood Park CLG need your help to raise the remaining funds needed to get their new, inclusive playground built at Murroe Wood Park.

Murroe Community Council intends to put in place an all-inclusive playground as part of Phase Four of the Community Field Project. The existing playground in Murroe opened in January 2011 and has provided an important amenity for children and young families in the area since that time. Unfortunately, the facility is situated at a site that will shortly be re-developed to provide a community hub and car park at Murroe Town Park.

Murroe Wood Park CLG has previously been awarded funding from the Leader Rural Development Programme towards the construction of a new, inclusive, playground at Murroe Wood Park, which will replace the existing playground which is closing to facilitate the development of a community hub, plaza and car park at the site.

Their new playground will be approximately 615 square metres in size and will include items such as a play bridge, musical panels, inclusive spinner, climbing structures and a zipline. The traffic-free nature of the park, combined with the close proximity of the playground to the community hub (particularly its cafe and toilet facilities) and other amenities will make this an ideal space for families to unwind and enjoy themselves in an outdoor setting.

It is being developed and run by Murroe Wood Park CLG –  a company set up to oversee the development and running of the park. The park itself is a six-acre site in the middle of Murroe village. It includes an 800m walking track and construction to soon begin on a state-of-the-art community center. Also, with Phase 2 of the project nearly finished, teens and young adults will have a brand new skatepark to enjoy and get some outdoor physical activity.

They are 3/4 of the way towards being able to build this facility but they need to raise another €40,000 to begin construction.

A spokesperson commented, “It has got to this stage of its development through the enormous fundraising efforts of many locals in the Murroe/Boher parish and supported by the awarding of several competitive grants. The board are forever grateful to Mr. J.P. McManus and Limerick City & County Council for the support they have given this project.”
