Murroe Wood Park helps local people create healthier lives for themselves and their children
The park itself is a six-acre site in the middle of Murroe village and includes an 800m walking track, a state-of-the-art community center a brand new skatepark.
Murroe Wood Park is a community recreation and sports facility located in the village of Murroe, County Limerick.
It has got to this stage of its development through the enormous fundraising efforts of many locals in the Murroe/Boher parish and supported by the awarding of several competitive grants. The board of Murroe Wood Park CLG are forever grateful to Mr. J.P. McManus and to Limerick City & County Council for the support they have given this project.
It is being developed and run by Murroe Wood Park CLG – a company set up to oversee the development and running of the park. The park itself is a six-acre site in the middle of Murroe village. It includes an 800m walking track and construction to soon begin on a state-of-the-art community center. Also, with Phase 2 of the project nearly finished, teens and young adults will have a brand new skatepark to enjoy and get some outdoor physical activity.

Despite Covid-19 lockdown, Murroe Wood Park CLG announced the appointment of Rogerson Reddan, project management team, and Quinn Architects, who will spearhead the construction of a large-scale multi-purpose community hub in Murroe as part of Phase 3 of its development.
“Scheduled for completion towards the early months of 2022, the building will provide a new indoor space for the whole community to enjoy, with plans for a new cafe, sports centre, scout hall and meeting rooms within its walls.
Funding of €3,8m was granted by the Department of Rural and Community Development. It is anticipated that over €500,000 will have to be raised locally for this development phase.
Eamonn O’Sullivan, Community Development Officer said, “We are in no doubt that Murroe Wood Park is changing the way in which local people will create healthy lives for themselves and their children.
We hope to see neighbours and friends hold sporting and other events at this venue to further build on Murroe’s great community spirit. It is certainly exciting times for the people of Murroe and its hinterland. As always, Murroe Wood Park CLG would like to take this opportunity to thank the community of Murroe-Boher for its support and assistance, particularly in relation to the enormous fund-raising efforts which helped get the project to this stage of development. The Certified All Weather Pitch is open to the public and the LED lighting is in place. They are open from 7am to 10pm every day. All and any outdoor activities are welcome, such as GAA. 5-a-sides, outdoor bootcamps, yoga, and much more. Their booking system is completely user friendly, extremely secure and we will be happy to guide you through the process if needs be.
