Open Call for Bursary Applications including Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary Award 2020

Limerick City and County Council has announced the opening of applications for bursary funding for artists worth a total of €24,000.

Five Individual Arts Bursary Awards will be chosen while there is one Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary Award 2020 available for eligible artists. Funding is up to €4,000 for each award.

The Individual Arts Bursary Awards and the Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary Award scheme are designed to support Limerick-based professional musicians to develop their artistic practice. They can be used for a variety of supports including:

• Costs relating to the production of a specific body of new artistic work -development of new work for performance, presentation or recording.
• Costs relating to improving your knowledge – research or short-term courses in Ireland or a structured mentoring relationship.
• Costs relating to improving your professional capacities – such as website development, on-line supports or documentation.
• Other- or any purpose that contributes to the removal of existing barriers to an artist’s development.

The bursaries are open to all professional artists who are based in Limerick City and County Council’s administrative area or operate substantially within Limerick City and County and in multiple art forms including Visual Arts, Circus, Dance, Music and Literature.

Bursaries are a maximum of €4,000 each, towards the development of work/ professional skills. A total budget of €24,000 is available in the grant schemes. They are competitive awards and it is expected that many more applications will be received than is possible for Limerick City and County Council to support.

Dr Pippa Little, Culture and Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “Limerick City and County Council is cognisant of the stresses and restrictions on artists and their work practice at this difficult time, due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The Individual Arts Bursary and the Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary may offer some support. The focus of this funding is to offer Limerick artists the time and space to develop their professional practice.”

“The bursaries also fit directly into Limerick’s Culture and Arts Strategy, which aims to grow Limerick’s cultural capacity by retaining and attracting creative practitioners to live and work in Limerick and encouraging the highest standards of creativity. These bursaries will allow this to happen by supporting and developing the creativity of individual artists.”

“I’m also delighted that Dolores O’Riordan’s family have given their approval to continue to offer the music bursary in honour and memory of one of Limerick’s most talented singer/ songwriters.”

Closing date for receipt of applications is 5 pm on Wednesday, June 3.
