The Music Factory camp will run from July 14 -17 at the University of Limerick.

The Music Factory camp will run from July 14 -18 2014 at the University of Limerick.

Music Factory is exciting creative music camp for children (8-12 years) which takes place from Monday 14 to Friday 18 July (10am-3pm) on campus at UL at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance.

‘Myths & Legends’ is the theme for this year’s Music Factory camp as children explore tales from Limerick’s rich heritage of stories. From the Banshee to Brian Boru, stories come alive through music, song, dance, visual art, rap and musical theatre.  Children will experiment in different art forms, and work in small groups with their leaders, to produce their very own performance.   In a Music Factory first, campers will also have the chance to record their songs on the Music Generation Big Bus, which will be resident at the camp all week.   No prior music experience is necessary.  The aim of the camp is to make new friends, be creative and to have fun.

This year’s creative team is led by ICO Community Engagement Manager, Kathleen Turner and ICO violinist, Diane Daly. Tutors include singer/actress Jean McGlynn, dancer Jenny Brown, artist Lisa Cody, percussionist Boris Hunka, alongside musicians from Music Generation and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Music Factory culminates in a Family performance on Friday July 18th and all of the family are invited along.  Participants must bring their own packed lunches daily and bottled water is also advisable.

The fee for Music Factory is €85 payable to the Irish Chamber Orchestra (by cash or cheque).  This includes a full week of creative workshops from 10am – 3pm daily. Places are limited and are sought after, so early booking is recommended. Contact Kathleen Turner on 061 234632 or [email protected].

Music Factory is an Irish Chamber Orchestra community initiative, and is generously co-sponsored by Music Generation with additional support from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.

The Irish Chamber Orchestra is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland. www.irishchamberorchestra.com.
