Limerick’s Myles Breen marked the amazing achievement of appearing in 30 years of consecutive pantos following his role as the panto dame in this year’s Specsavers Limerick Panto, Cinderella, at University Concert Hall.

The milestone is a double celebration for Myles Breen as his appearance in this year’s panto also marked his 14th appearance in the University Concert Hall Panto.

Myles, an audience favourite throughout the years, reflected on the milestone with his typical humour and warmth, saying, “ Hello, my darlings, Kim here, also known as Myles Breen. And this year is a very special year for both of us, because this is my 14th panto here at University Concert Hall in the fabulous Cinderella, but I’m also marking another anniversary. This is my 30th panto to in a row. Can you believe it?!”

The Limerick actor joked at his long association with pantomime, saying it began at an early age, he said, “I hasten to add, I started off in the children’s chorus. I’m only 35.”

Best known for his work as a pantomime dame, Breen has become a familiar and much-loved figure on the Limerick stage, particularly in festive productions that attract audiences of all ages, and is also known for his work with Limerick Youth Theatre.

Having shared the stage and dressing room with Myles, I Love Limerick’s Richard Lynch said, “ I could not have been more honoured to spend those nine years with my sister, my big sister, my wonderfully talented sister who taught me everything I need to know about panto.

“The laughter, the tears, the joy, all the experience we had together in that dressing room and on that stage were something I will treasure and hold in my heart forever.  I could not love you more. I could not admire you more. I couldn’t respect you more. You are a Limerick legend!”

Speaking fondly of his friend and colleague, Richard added, “You are a force to be reckoned with! Outside of Panto, you’re one of the most wonderfully talented people I’ve ever met, not just in theatre, but in this world. I am privileged and honoured to know you!”

University Concert Hall said, sharing the celebrations, “Our very own Myles Breen celebrates his 30th panto in a row! We are very lucky to have Myles be a part of our Panto’s for the past 14 years here at UCH and with many more years to come!”

Myles signed off his message by wishing audiences well and looking ahead, he said, “Here’s to many more years of panto to come, and I wish you all a very happy week.”
