Narrative 4, a global non-profit that uses storytelling to promote empathy, exchange, and social change, launched their first global center in Limerick on the afternoon of June 27. It also showcased musical performances by violinist Colm Mac Con Iomaire Narrative 4Õs core methodology, the story exchange, asks participants to share stories and to step into each otherÕs perspectives to promote empathy. Co-founder Colum McCann explains, ÒThis is key to understanding the hopes, fears, experiences, beliefs, and world-views of others. ÊIt offers opportunities to recognize emotion in others and suggests that individuals refrain from judgment. ÊWe ask people to feel with and for others.Ó ÒNarrative 4 is based on the simple idea that by knowing the story of another, we are able to better understand each other,Ó said executive director Lisa Consiglio. Regional director James Lawlor added, ÒLimerick is the perfect place to be a global center for Narrative 4 to to help Limerick students engage in their communities and change the world.Ó Last year, over 25,000 stories were exchanged on four continents; the countries included Ireland, Mexico, Rwanda, Israel, South Africa, Palestine, England and the United States. Consiglio said, ÒIreland has given birth to some of the worldÕs finest storytellers. As we move to support both global and local actions towards change, we are excited to strengthen our organizational mission in Ireland by opening our first global headquarters in Limerick.Ó Narrative 4Õs 2016 summit began in Belfast on June 24, moved to Dublin and ends in Limerick on June 28. This yearÕs theme, ÒBroadening Our Reach,Ó will ask participants to focus on creating concrete actions to make change across communities. Narrative 4 is honoured to present an unforgettable evening with Colum McCann, internationally acclaimed author, in conversation with Rami Elhanan and Bassam Aramin, the two bereaved fathers whose extraordinary friendship across the Israeli-Palestinian divide inspired McCann’s celebrated novel Apeirogon.

At a time of deepening conflict and polarisation, their voices offer a powerful reminder of the possibility of dialogue, connection, and healing across divides.

The conversation will be interwoven with music from long-time collaborator and renowned composer Colm Mac Con Iomaire, bringing depth and poignancy to this evening of story, song, and solidarity.

This event shines a light on the work of the Parents Circle, a grassroots movement of bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families committed to peace, while also highlighting Narrative 4’s mission to equip young people to harness the power of stories to drive change in their communities.

Narrative 4 is a global non-profit with its Irish hub based in Limerick. Narrative 4 uses an evidence-based Story Exchange model to help young people build essential social and emotional skills.

Through storytelling and the sharing of personal experiences, N4 fosters empathy, strengthens social connection, and builds resilience—bringing people together across divides.

Join Narrative 4 for this unique gathering of courage, grief, and hope and witness how storytelling can illuminate the path toward reconciliation, even in the darkest of times. Doors at 7.00pm. The event begins at 7.30pm with tickets available online.  

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
