National Bow Tie Day 2016 takes place on October 28

This Friday, October 28 is National Bow Tie Day. Everyone in Ireland is invited to don a bow-tie to help raise awareness of the work being done in the Mediterranean by Migrant Offshore Aid Station. A special limited edition Bow Tie produced by House of AKI –NA  for MOAS will be available for sale online.

With support from the likes of Ryan Tubridy, Marcus Connaughton and the RNLI Crew from West Cork among others, National Bow Tie Day is encouraging everyone to wear a bow tie in support of those helping to prevent the loss of life of refugees and migrants in distress at sea.

“We are asking everyone to wear a bowtie on Friday, whether you’re going to the office, around the house or to wherever you have to go on National Bow Tie Day to raise awareness for the incredibly important work being done by MOAS,” said RTE1 Seascapes broadcaster, Marcus Connaughton and Sail Training Ireland Goodwill Ambassador.

Marcus Connaughton has been wearing  bow ties for the past twenty six years. Indeed each and every Friday that SEASCAPES  is assembled  for broadcast  that evening it’s a given that Marcus is sporting a Bow Tie. Following attendance at the Love Comes To Town Tour of BB King and U2 in The Point Depot ( 3 Arena) on New Years Eve in 1989  sporting a bow tie Marcus took on a New Years  resolution to wear bowties commencing on the January 1 1990 and has amassed a considerable collection in the past twenty six years.Marcus is asking that you might sport a bow tie in the workplace on Friday 28

Marcus is asking that you might sport a bow tie in the workplace on Friday, October 28 and if possible a MOAS bow tie. The plan is that next year Bow Tie Day on the last Friday in October will takes it’s theme from the work of Sail Training Ireland  and raise awareness and funds from the sale of a specially themed Bow Tie inspired by ASGARD II .

Migrant Offshore Aid Station is a Malta-based registered foundation dedicated to preventing loss of life to refugees and migrants in distress at sea. MOAS work in close cooperation with the Italian Red Cross, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

House of AKI-NA who are producing the limited edition Bow Ties for MOAS to coincide with their second Anniversary is a Dublin based Social Enterprise Lifestyle Brand, the MOAS collaboration was facilitated by Co-Founder and CEO Lye Ogunsanya.
