The National Children’s Choir Concert in the University Concert Hall

The National Children’s Choir is a school-based choral experience for primary school children. The choir has its roots in European Music Year, 1985. Seán Creamer wanted to celebrate this exciting event in a unique way. His idea was that large groups of children from 4th, 5th and 6th classes in primary schools would learn and perform a common repertoire in public. He approached a number of teachers with this vision and they willingly supported him. This was the birth of the National Children’s Choir. The aims of the National Children’s Choir are to foster a love of choral singing among primary school pupils and to enhance the musical education of those involved.

This is a night not to be missed. The excitement from the children is infectious and the repertoire will send you home with a song in your heart and a smile on your face. The programme is jam-packed and includes favourites and classics like Starman, 59th Bridge Street Song, Ave Maria, Crandaí Bogadaí, O Fortuna, Bheir Me O, and a medley from the Sound of Music to mention just a few.

That’s not all, the night’s entertainment features other amazing acts; which include the School of Music Orchestra, The Nolan School of Dancing and Finscéal All Ireland Gael Linn Siamsa Winners 2019.

The girls and boys have worked extremely hard practising and learning the list of songs. The children are a great credit to their committed and enthusiastic teachers and the unending support from their parents. The effort and support will certainly pay off on the night and it will be a performance to remember.

Bernadette Kennedy is the Regional Organiser/Coordinator and Gabrielle Lee Casey is the Musical Director who never ceases to encourage and inspire at all times.

The National Children’s Choir will perform in the University Concert Hall in Limerick on Tuesday, May 14 at 7.30 pm. This concert marks the end of an exciting year’s work and rehearsals for 180 children from five schools in the region; Birdhill N.S, Murroe N.S., Nicker N.S, Quin N.S and Cratloe N.S. Tickets are €15 and are available now at www.uch.ie.
