University of Limerick has taken home top honours at the prestigious national education awards

UL won the Overall Excellence Award at the Education Awards 2023, which took place in the Crown Plaza, Santry on Thursday night.

UL was the most awarded institution with five awards in total at the event, which recognises excellence in the third-level education sector on the island of Ireland from both State and privately funded institutions.

UL won the awards for Best Marketing/Communications Team, Best Student Campus, Student Engagement & Communications, Best Use of Educational Technology/ICT Initiative of the Year and the Overall Excellence Award, which was announced at the end of the night.

University of Limerick President Professor Kerstin Mey said the awards were “recognition of the absolutely incredible work being done across the institution by an extremely dedicated and passionate staff community. I am particularly pleased to see award recognition for our Academic Registry and Marketing and Communications teams, who work tirelessly, often very much behind the scenes, on behalf of our full student and staff community.

“It is an honour to be nominated for these awards, but to take home five wins, including the overall prize for excellence, is a real validation of the of the passion and commitment of the staff at University of Limerick and I am delighted that they have been celebrated.”

UL’s Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs Director Laura Ryan said she was “absolutely thrilled that UL took home five of the top awards at the Irish Education Awards, including the overall excellence award.

“I am particularly proud of the Best Marketing and Communications team award, I am very lucky to lead such a dedicated and motivated team who work so hard to ensure UL and its audiences are to the forefront of everything we do,” she added.

UL was also nominated for Best Erasmus Programme, Best Research Project and Best Community-Academic Collaboration – while the UL based Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science was nominated for Best Student Experience Award and The Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI) research group at UL were nominated along with IEMAG for Best Industry/Business – Academic Collaboration for collaborative mathematical and statistical modelling for the COVID-19 response.
